We are family! We all come from different walks of life, but we share a common desire to help.

Our mission is to uplift low socioeconomic communities through various wellness programs. Our focus areas are occupational, physical, social, intellectual, spiritual ,and emotional health

The story of Big Wave Family began in 2014 with the launch of our first community initiative, Brown Bag Saturday. What started with just 40 bags of food distributed each month to families in need has grown into a cornerstone program that now provides over 200 bags monthly, helping fight food insecurity in Charlotte’s underserved neighborhoods.
Building on the success of Brown Bag Saturday, Big Wave Family was officially founded in 2016 in Charlotte, North Carolina, by a group of young college-educated individuals. United by a shared commitment to supporting lower socioeconomic communities, they envisioned an organization that could expand beyond food relief to provide holistic programs promoting wellness and empowerment.
Over the years, our impact has grown through strong community partnerships with organizations such as the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, Mad Miles Run Club, Charlotte Urban Young Professionals, Amazon CLT, Publix, and more. Together, we’ve been able to extend our reach, strengthen our programs, and serve families in meaningful ways.
Guided by six pillars of wellness—occupational, physical, social, intellectual, spiritual, and emotional—Big Wave Family continues to expand from a grassroots effort into a trusted nonprofit that touches lives across Charlotte.
From handing out 40 brown bags in 2014 to sustaining partnerships that uplift hundreds of families each month, our journey reflects one simple truth: when communities come together, waves of change can begin.
